Spray Foam Insulation has High R-Value

6. Spray Foam Insulation has High R-Value

What is R-Value?

R stands for Resistance. R-Value is used to quantify insulation’s effectiveness by measuring the Resistance to the passage of heat through the walls and ceilings of a house or building.

Spray foam insulation has an R-value of about 6.0 per 1 inch thickness (depending on the specific formulation and application, higher values have been obtained), allowing it to supply more thermal resistance with less material than any other type of commercial insulations. Spray foam insulation is frequently used to insulate and protect a wide array of residential, industrial, and commercial buildings.

Utility and monthly energy savings of 30% or greater can be achieved as compared to other roofing and insulation systems. The cost of an SPF roof or can often be recovered in less than 5 years, simply through energy savings alone.

Spray Foam insulation will provide you with the highest R-Value and air sealing capabilities. Fiberglass batts have an R-Value of about 3.5 per inch, but they do not air seal. Spray foam provides a permanent barrier to air flow and heat loss. Spray Foam products, depending on the open or closed cell composition, range from about 4.0 per inch to over 6.0 per inch.

It is a fact that one of the most sought after benefits of spray foam insulation is energy savings. However, with the diversity and efficiency of this insulating material, it’s got more to offer rather than just the cost effective benefits it provides. The advantages of foam insulation extend further from the common function it performs which is sealing to keeping a home healthy and comfortable to live in.
